PCSing with Dogs

PCSing can be an exciting and stressful time…especially if you have dogs. If your fur children are anything like mine and re-homing is out of the question just know that IT IS POSSIBLE! I was a basket case before our PCS to Germany. Will the dogs be okay? Where will we live that accepts dogs? Will they be happy? Will I be happy?

I am happy to say that bring not one but two dogs with us across the world really wasn’t all that bad and it was totally worth it! Now, I’m not the dog whisper….oh no! I had plenty of help from some keep items! I own every one of these exact items and promise that they are positional to PCSing with dogs. Whether you’re staying stateside or going OCONUS these products are lifesavers for both you and your dog!

 Airline Approved Crate

Wanting to fly to your new duty station? I was super worried about finding the right crate for both my dogs and one that the airlines would accept and this one was perfect! I have zero issues at the airport and my dog loves it!

Just remember to get yours early so your pup has time to acclimate to it!

Hands-Free Dog Carrier

This one is for all you crazy fur baby mommas out there! I have one big dog and a small one. This carrier is perfect for my smaller dog because we love to get out and about with the dogs.

Since it’s difficult to navigate crowds with two dogs on a leash this bad boy takes care of safeguarding one pup while allowing me to stay hands-free…. minus the free ear scratches I provide. We also PCS’d to a hiking hotspot so this is a great take along to keep my pup from becoming exhausted as he is older.

Gentle Leader

I mentioned I have two dogs….well my bigger one is way too big for the carrier but also terrible on the leash! We have tried everything..including 17 weeks of dog training, but girlfriend just wants to pull! We bought this and are never looking back folks! It’s called a gentle leader because it is gentle reinforcement across the bridge of the dog’s nose everytime they pull. I’m not a fan of any device that is painful for a dog so this leash device is just perfect. If I had to I would give this product ten stars every time!
Barking Control Device

Have to stay in a hotel? TLA? An apartment or townhome AND have dogs who like to bark? This barking control device has worked wonders for my dogs and their barking obsession. It is intended for outdoor use but I read on the reviews that many people also put it indoors. I keep mine tucked behind some books on a shelf and keep an eye on it to make sure the setting is low so my dogs don’t get too uncomfortable if they bark.

Personalized ID Tag

Don’t go through the trouble of moving only to lose them! We had new German phone numbers so we needed new tags. These were cheap and a great quality:)

Pet Car Seat Cover

Whether you are driving across the country to your next duty station or buying a new car once you arrive you need to protect your seats! We bought a new car here in Germany and with all the hiking we do this seat cover has been a lifesaver! It is super easy to put up and down and easy to wipe clean.

Again I personally own and love all of these products! I hope you and your furry friends have a wonderful PCS!

  1. I have not checked in here for a while because I thought it was getting boring, but the last several posts are good quality so I guess I will add you back to my everyday bloglist. You deserve it my friend 🙂

  2. PCSing at the end of the month with our pup! We just bought the seat cover since we are driving, and we love it! Thanks for the recommendation 🙂
